Gostilya village, Dolna Mitropolia municipality
The village of Gostilya is located 26 km west-northwest of the municipal center Dolna Mitropolia and 15 km south of the Danube river.
In the valley, through the middle of the village, the small river Gostilya meanders.
The village is named after the river around which it is settled. Legends say that the name of the river Gostilya comes from the name of the area where the people of Banat settled in the village. In the past, there were two mills in this area. They drove their cattle from the neighboring villages for fattening and watering, and everyone passing through this area stopped for a rest here. The area hosted the passers-by (guests). And Gost from Gostilya means ‘guest’, thus the name of the village.
The village of Gostilya, along with Asenovo, Bregare, Burdarski Geran and Dragomirovo, is one of the five villages founded by Banat Bulgarians - Catholics who returned from Banat after the Liberation of Bulgaria in 1878.
